Greetings! My name is João Paz, and I’m a music teacher, jazz guitarist, and composer based in Lisbon, Portugal.
First, there was grandma’s piano and cousin’s guitar. My dad bought me my first guitar at 11 – and I still have it, a 1974 Brazilian DiGiorgio!
I started with rock bands in the 80s: concerts and TV shows in Portugal and Spain, resulting in a recording contract for our band’s original material in 1991.
I studied classical guitar and have a professional degree in violin.
I turned to Jazz around 2000 and studied with André Fernandes and at local jazz schools; I also worked online with Jimmy Bruno, Andreas Öberg, Matt Warnock, Frank Vignola, Sheryl Bailey, and Jonathan Kreisberg.
I got a Jazz Guitar DipLCM in 2015 (UWLQ Level 4 Diploma in Music Performance QCF) from the London College of Music.
I started teaching professionally in 1995: guitar, bass, violin, music theory, baroque orchestra, and jazz combo.
Teaching is my passion! It is gratifying to help someone become proficient with a musical instrument.
That’s what I want to do: assist you in achieving a complete understanding of your guitar and your music – in a simple, practical, effective, and fun way.
